* Jersey deposit – $100 jersey deposit is required for new Midget and Juvenile players, upon registration.  Players that return their jerseys in good condition will carry the deposit through to subsequent seasons and will receive a refund upon leaving AMHA.  Players that do not return their jerseys will lose the deposit and will be required to pay an additional $100 deposit upon registration for the following season.  

 

What form of payment is accepted by AMHA?

AMHA accepts personal cheques, money orders, bank drafts and cash. We do not accept credit cards.

 

What if my child tries hockey and decides it is not for him/her.  Is there a refund available?

Please refer to the AMHA Policy Manual for specific details regarding a refund.

 

When does the hockey season start?

While specific dates are still yet to be announced, you can expect Rep Tryouts to start in late August/early September. “C” division evaluations start in early September. Please keep an eye on the website for schedules and firm dates.

 

Can I specify a certain coach or team that I want my child to play for?

Unfortunately, AMHA is not able to accommodate requests to play for specific coaches as this creates difficulties balancing teams.

 

Can I request that my child play with his friend for car-pooling purposes?

Unfortunately, AMHA is not able to accommodate requests to play with friends as this creates difficulty balancing teams. With the exception of rep, AMHA attempts to place siblings in the same division on the same team.

 

How will I find out my child's “C” Division schedule?

Evaluation schedules will be posted on the AMHA website. Once teams are formed,  teams will have a website with important team information including schedules.

 

I am moving to a new home. What address do I put on the form if we have not moved yet?

Minor Hockey requires that players play within the boundaries of where they reside.  If you expect to move before the start of the season, you may be granted a conditional approval until such time as you can provide documentation of the new residency.  If you do not plan to move until sometime into the season, you will be required to register with the association within the community you are currently living.

 

What is the draw zone (boundaries) for Abbotsford Minor Hockey?

You must reside within the Municipality of Abbotsford and Sumas Mountain unorganized territory with the following exception:

The Western Boundary is defined as:

• 276th Street (#1 Freeway north to the Fraser River)

• 280th Street (0 Avenue north to the #1 Freeway).

 

Players living on the west side of this boundary are required to register with Aldergrove Minor Hockey.

What do the different divisions mean?

Hockey 1       5 yr olds
Hockey 2       6 yr olds
Hockey 3       7 yr olds
Hockey 4       8 yr olds
Atom               9 and 10 yr olds
Pee Wee        11 and 12 yr olds
Bantam          13 and 14 yr olds
Midget            15-17 yr olds
Juvenile         over the age of 18.
 ***This means they will be the specified age by December 31st.***

 

What do fees cover?

Player fees pay for game and practice ice, insurance, referee fees and the use of a game jersey. A portion of the fees cover the administrative costs of the association and membership fees for PCAHA, BC Hockey and Hockey Canada. Fees are also used to pay for coach development courses and for equipment such as pucks and first aid kits.

 

Other than registration fees, are there other fees and expenses throughout the season?

Teams may collect additional fees or fundraise to pay for tournament entry fees and other team expenses.  In general, team fees for Recreational hockey can range from $100-300.  This will be discussed and voted on as a team at the start of the season.

 

My child would like to play hockey but I am not able to afford it. Is financial help available?

Yes!  Many local organizations have funding available to help cover registration fees. If you would like more details, please speak to the registrar and she will be happy to assist you.

 

I want to know what days my child will play. Why is it not the same every week?

Unfortunately hockey is not an activity that provides a rigid schedule each week.  Teams rotate to play other teams (including teams from Chilliwack, Mission and Hope) based on the ice available. Therefore practice times must rotate as well.

 

I heard there are female hockey teams, my daughter is 6. Can she play on the female team?

AMHA welcomes female players of all ages and skill levels however we are an integrated association and do not have teams strictly dedicated to female hockey.  Abbotsford Female Hockey Association is an option for parents looking for a female association.
